Prologue
Fall 2004

Check back for our fall 2006 update coming in October 2006! We've had some changes in the last two years......

Tampa Bay Modeling, at the time of this writing, is a new web site, and not a whole lot of people know about us yet. Six professional freelance models got together in a Clearwater condo on a February 2004 morning for coffee and a chance to network among ourselves, and we began to share our experiences and our inspiration. One thing that we all had in common was this fantastic web site by the name of Independent Modeling, which had been on the Internet for several years and had a profound affect on our careers and our industry views. For the first time, the outlook for the future was bright, and you could see it beaming on all of our faces. So, we sipped our coffees and shared in the successes of our careers, and one of our model friends by the name of Nancy Slater brought up the idea that we should help the idea of changing the modeling industry for the best that Independent Modeling had started. We decided to found and keep up our own modeling web site. So, the idea was hatched. We had a problem though. Very few of us knew much about web design, although we were good at using the Internet to promote ourselves. So, we contacted Jillian Nicols and Monica Stevens over at Independent Modeling, and they were very enthusiastic about our plan and were very helpful! Jillian referred us to Independent Modeling's web designers, the Tampa Bay advertising agency EOS MediaArts, who cut us a great deal on a very new web site concept, and Monica met with us one day near her home in Hyde Park to help us with the overall layout of the web site and the planned content. It was coming together, and we learned so much with the help of our new friends! After meeting Monica and Jillian, we were stunned with how beautiful, articulate, and educated both of these independent models were, too. They are really the definition of what the 21st century model should be. These ladies know what they want, know how to get it, and they don't take any crap from anyone. They earned our respect long before we had the honor of meeting them. Jillian introduced us to an attorney friend of hers who used to be a fashion model in New York and Miami, and our team was assembled. The talented people over at EOS MediaArts got cracking, too, collaborating with our model friend Talesha Larsen to come up with a Miami Beach retro 80's design concept for the developing Tampa Bay Modeling web site! After a bit of debate about our founding "team" being a girl's club, we roped in our friend and professional model Chris Capri for the testosterone injection that we needed for balance, making the site staff seven models.
After a few more meetings in the Clearwater Beach condo, we got organized, assigning jobs for each of the seven founding models and setting up a liaison ambassador for our friends over at Independent Modeling. It was time to join the cause and help make a difference in the modeling industry!
So, who are the models of Tampa Bay Modeling? Here we are:

Danielle Cooper
Editor and Senior Writer

This is who I am, sitting in my condo in Clearwater Beach writing this right now. We came up with the Tampa Bay Modeling idea right here, not twenty feet from my desk. Tampa Bay Modeling is run right here from my condo, where I can oversee and update the web site with a sunset view of the Gulf of Mexico and the cool breeze blowing through my white curtains.
I am 23 years old, and have been a fashion model for six years. I grew up in Miami Beach, Florida, and moved to Clearwater Beach in 2003. I put myself through college working as a model, and I began working more as a free agent when I discovered Independent Modeling back in 2002 and began to use their concepts to enhance my modeling career and market myself as a model. I now book most of my work without an agency. I have a BA in business, and am a professional writer, too.

Nancy Slater
Ambassador and Founding Model

Nancy is my best friend, and at 19 years old, she's been a model for ten years! Nancy is an arts major over at the University of South Florida, and like myself she is putting herself through school by working as a freelance model. Nancy also has connections with over six Tampa Bay agencies, and books work from them on a regular basis. As a Tampa native, Nancy is very well connected and knows the good and bad people in the Tampa Bay modeling industry very well. With this knowledge, she avoids the bad people and networks with the good ones.

Laura Perez
Forum Moderator

Laura is amazing. She knows four languages, and was educated with the help of well off relatives when she came to the United States from Cuba when she was a child. Now, at 21, this top fashion model commutes between her home in South Tampa and model work in New York and in Europe. Since she's always traveling, and loves communicating, Laura oversee's our web forums, which she can monitor from wherever in the world she may happen to be from any Internet Cafe or other connection.

Talesha Larsen
Staff Artist and Designer

Fresh faced and 18, this stunning 6 foot tall runway model is a self described art geek who loves to dress casual when she's not working it. Talesha is the shy girl in the corner who would rather stay by herself and design things on her PDA than talk to anyone. Recently, Talesha started dating a friend from the University Of Tampa, and we found her doodling on a napkin one night when they were out on a dinner date.
Half Latin and half Russian, Talesha is very much in touch with both cultures, as is evident by the Miami 80's art direction of the Tampa Bay Modeling web site!

Jessica Moore
Staff Writer and Public Relations

Jessica is a 19 year old swimsuit model from Brandon, Florida who has been doing more commercial work lately. Petite and feisty, she is a serious writer and a poet as well as a great communicator in front of the camera. Lately, Jessica has been increasingly annoyed with certain model photographers who try to exploit models and the model scams in Tampa Bay, and has started to fight back. Jessica handles our mail when she has the time from her busy career.

Sidney Thornton
Staff Writer and Legal Secretary

The oldest model of our group at 28, Sidney is also the most experienced. A seasoned international fashion model, Sidney is focusing on booking commercial and editorial work here in Florida now. Sidney is a licensed paralegal who studied entertainment law, and hangs out with several attorneys in the Tampa Bay area. Sidney lives with her fiance in Carollwood, which is in North Tampa, and is a self described entertainment junky who is a hard core videogamer. Sidney is preparing for an acting career at the moment, and uses resources such as Independent Acting to market herself as an actress.

Chris Capri
Staff Writer, Contributing Model Photographer, and Security

Chris Capri is a professional commercial model and an independent actor from Tampa. He is a veteran of theater productions, and you've probably seen him in a television commercial at one time or another. Chris is an advanced model photographer, and he does model portofolios from time to time. Altough he has a steady girlfriend, rumor has it that one of the girls on our staff has a thing for him. I'm just not saying who it is.

~MISSION STATEMENT~

Tampa Bay Modeling is a web resource for freelance models, and we became operational on Monday, October 18, 2004. We were created by a group of professional models with the assistance of our friends over at Independent Modeling, and we are headquartered in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Although many of us owe the success of our careers to Independent Modeling, we have licensed some of their tools, and the same web design company designed this site, we are not Independent Modeling, and are quite independent as a separate organization. This site has an Alliance with Independent Modeling and several entertainment industry activist organizations.

The mission of this web site is to help models work on a freelance basis and become respected independent professionals in their modeling career. We have articles, tutorials, and the tools available free of charge for models to use in their career. While this web site is not set up to fight scams, we are dedicated to introducing accountability to the model service industry, and will be working to help models self regulate related industries such as model portfolio photography. We would like to see the State of Florida impose regulation on industry professionals such as model portfolio photographers like they do model and talent agencies, as there is a lot of unethical activity going on, as well as the abuse of the rights of models. Being independent, we models have to look out for our best interests and look out for each other. Together, we can work toward a brand new modeling industry, and impose regulation on those industries that service us with the tools for our careers.

Enjoy the use of this free web site. If you need anything, please let us know. The look of modeling in Tampa Bay is going to change into something that we will all be proud to be a part of.

Well, that's us. Now for our TERMS OF USE!

BEWARE OF THESE TOP TAMPA BAY MODEL SCAMS: Tampa Model Search, Tampa Bay model search, Florida model searches, Tampa Bay model placement, Tampa Bay model consultant, Florida modeling consultants, Tampa Bay TFP photographer, Tampa Bay model portfolio photography scams, Tampa Talent Scams and Tampa Bay model job scams. Be aware of what they are, and be careful!

As of February 24, 2007, Tampa Bay Modeling and our industry allies are at war with unethical and unprofessional elements in the Tampa Bay and Florida modeling industry. Our primary targets are Tampa Bay model consultation and agency placement scams, Tampa Bay model searches, Tampa Bay model job scams, Tampa Bay TFP photographers, and Tampa Bay model photography scams. We expect the fight to last years, and we already know that we have been tremendously effective in helping to change the modeling industry so far, as we have the dominate voice in the Tampa Bay modeling industry. Models, your help has arrived, and it is right here.

Regarding Tampa Bay model and talent agencies, we are now convinced that the licensed ones (and all of the ones who are SAG franchised) are on the level and are not doing anything wrong. This said, they have no business managing the career of any professional model, due to the fact that they are working conflicts on interest, as they also represent other models who are in competition for the same jobs that they refer them to. Tampa Bay model and talent agencies also have no business referring aspiring models to any photographers, and we strongly recommend that models find photographers on their own and obtain their modeling portfolios before talking to any modeling agencies. Model and talent agencies should be used only as a source of model jobs and nothing more. By all means, utilize model and talent agencies as one of your many sources of potential jobs, but never let them tell you what to do and always scrutinize their advice. The agency way is no longer the only way, and there are professional alternatives to Tampa Bay model and talent agencies! Also, please note that model and talent agency scams are still around, too.

The Tampa Bay Talent Sites

ADDED MARCH 29, 2007. UPDATED OCTOBER 01, 2007

TAMPA BAY MODELING - TAMPA BAY ACTING - TAMPA BAY FILM

There are now a total of three Tampa Bay Talent web sites. These sites are Tampa Bay Modeling, which you are now on, Tampa Bay Acting, which has launched but had a rough launch and isn't as up to speed as we would like, and, of course, Tampa Bay Film, which has surprised us with its popularity; it is now the fastest growing web site in our group and its size is now equal to our own, with no end in sight. Tampa Bay Film may become much larger than the rest of us by this summer, and this will be an important property. Here at Tampa Bay Modeling we are used to conflict, as we have been fighting a modeling industry war for several years now, and our experience will surely give the Tampa Bay Film staff and their allies a major advantage as they fight for change and professional growth. All of the Tampa Bay Talent sites, of course, are Raptor Class sites which are optimized for scam-fighting operations, so we are set up for fighting.

Where are our sister regional modeling sites? These region-optimized mirror web sites, tentatively known as Miami Beach Modeling, Orlando Modeling, and Florida Modeling (don't bother looking up domain names on these, as some are already taken by others and the titles / domain names have not been finalized yet) are presently on hold until we can add new features to Tampa Bay Modeling and update some of our older content. We have teams of models and modeling industry professionals already assembled to work on these sites after they launch, although we are now finalizing site production protocols so our web master is not overwhelmed with work. For now these sites are on hold. Our regional modeling resource site editors, to assume their responsibilities once these modeling sites go active and launch, are as follows:

Orlando Modeling - Orlando model Patricia Olson is the Editor of the Orlando Modeling site. She is a top fashion runway model from New York with a B.A. in Mass Communications.

Miami Beach Modeling - Miami Beach model Maritza Gonzalez, an old friend of Danielle Cooper's, will be the Editor of the Miami Modeling web site. Maritza is a fashion model from Miami Beach, Florida, and she has worked with many modeling agencies in her career as an employee as well as a model. She is a professional booker and has headed agency divisions, such as the new faces division at a large agency.

Florida Modeling - Tampa model Heidi Duran will helm the Florida Modeling web site. Heidi is a commercial print and fashion runway model with professional experience in New York, Miami, and Europe. She has worked with the top modeling agencies in the world, including Elite and Ford.

As you can see, we have a lot going on here, and we are growing constantly. This spring and summer, we will be adding more features and a ton of modeling career tools and resources. We are even bringing back our Tampa Bay modeling mail bag, with Tampa Bay professional model Monica Stevens, this spring (with an improved, streamlined format so we can keep up with that and our web master can also work on mail bags for Tampa Bay Acting and Tampa Bay Film)! We look forward to the difference that we will make in the Tampa Bay modeling industry, and we're sure that all models are very excited by the potential, the possibilities, and the results of our hard work. These are truly exciting times for Tampa Bay Modeling and the Tampa Bay modeling industry!

Sincerely,
